Our Speech and Language Therapists at Waverly provide services for students with expressive and receptive language delays, fluency disorders, phonological disorders, auditory processing disorders, language processing disorders, social pragmatic challenges, autism and ADHD/executive functions challenges.

Our approach is tailored to each child's strengths and weaknesses. We often collaborate with other clinicians and school staff to help with continued success outside of our office.

EXPRESSIVE AND RECEPTIVE LANGUAGE SKILLS

Speech and language pathologists provide a wide variety of tools and techniques to gain an understanding of where a student's strengths lie in order to help bolster areas of weakness. These areas can include: word retrieval, fluency and prosody, language processing, language syntax, higher order language skills, oral narrative skills, figurative language, multi-sensory approach to math, reading, writing, spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and listening comprehension.

PROMPT

PROMPT trained clinicians utilize a tactile/kinesthetic approach to guide students through targeted words, phrases, and sentences. This approach develops motor control and development of muscular movement associated with speech.

ARTICULATION

Articulation refers to errors in speech sounds and phonological processes (sound patterns). Speech and language therapy focuses on the accurate production of speech sounds to improve speech clarity.

PHONOLOGY

Phonology is both the recognition of sounds and the production of sounds. Our services teach children the rules of speech to help them say words correctly. We also help children have a stronger ability to process language in order to follow instructions, keep up with classroom discussion and succeed in social environments.

LANGUAGE PROCESSING AND COMPREHENSION

We can help your child improve their language processing skills by exposing students to several techniques targeting skills needed for reading, writing and listening comprehension.

SPEECH SCREENING AND EVALUATIONS

We offer brief screenings as well as more comprehensive diagnostic evaluations targeting speech, language and pragmatics. Each parent will walk away with a greater understanding of his or her child's communication abilities and a road map for interventions.

EARLY INTERVENTION / DELAYED LANGUAGE INTERVENTION

We evaluate and provide treatment to toddlers and young children (zero to three years old) who are having trouble reaching language milestones. Specifically, we assess where the break down is occurring and then provide treatment in an individualized way to help boost your child's communication skills. We work closely with parents to provide individualized tools to help facilitate speech and language development.
