Lauren Zalis, MA, OTR/L

I am an Occupational Therapist and one of the co-founders of The Waverly Group. As an undergraduate at Washington University in St. Louis I volunteered at an integrated preschool program. I quickly found myself drawn to the prospect of working with children as well as in the occupational therapy field. I strongly believed that I would be able to make a powerful and positive impact on the communities I hoped to serve if I were able to blend these two areas. I chose to get my master’s degree at New York University and get additional training and certification in SIPT (Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests), Therapeutic Listening, Integrated Listening systems, and Interactive Metronome. I am passionate about what I do, and I am committed to supporting the children and families that I work with.

After twenty years of practicing OT in a variety of settings, I'm thrilled to be spending more time in a clinic. It has been energizing to witness and facilitate the widespread benefits of sensory integration. Working extensively with teachers on setting up flexible seating in their classrooms and incorporating movement to enhance learning, as well as collaborating closely with parents on just the right home program for their family, are passions of mine. My experiences include Early Intervention, private practice, school based, and outpatient OT. Regardless of the setting, my priorities are always the same: understand the parent perspective, build rapport with the child, and work as a team to improve life.

Ruth Zaccaria MS, OTR/L, SIPT

I am a pediatric occupational therapist with over 13 years of experience. I began my OT career at the Parkside School on Manhattan's Upper West Side.  At Parkside, I served as the Director of the Occupational Therapy Department, responsible for developing goals and treatment plans for Individualize Education Plans (IEP). My sessions took place in both classroom and sensory gym settings.  After my time at Parkside, I moved to the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) where I continued to develop my skills in their pediatric OT department. While at HSS I worked in a multi-diciplinary environment treating children with a variety of diagnoses including; orthopedic, neurological, rheumatic and congenital disorders.  In 2011, I left HSS to pursue my dream of developing my own practice, one that incorporates  my academic and medical backgrounds, to provide a unique environment for children to develop.

Tania Thompson MS, OTR/L

I knew at eight years old that when I grew up I wanted to be a pediatric occupational therapist. I thought it was so cool that the OT playing with my little brother was getting paid to do it! I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Communication at West Virginia University and my Master's degree in Occupational Therapy at Sacred Heart University. I have been working in schools with students ranging in age from pre-school to high school. I love being able to engage children through play in order to address their specific areas of need so that they are better able to participate in activities meaningful to them and their families.
